چکیده

We investigate nonmagnetic impurity effects in two-band superconductors, focusing on the effects of interband scatterings. Within the Born approximation, it is known that interband scatterings mix order parameters in the two bands. In particular, only one averaged energy gap appears in the excitation spectrum in the dirty limit. [G. Gusman: J. Phys. Chem. Solids 28 (1967) 2327.] In this paper, we take into account the interband scattering within the t-matrix approximation beyond the Born approximation in the previous work. We show that, although the interband scattering is responsible for the mixing effect, this effect becomes weak when the interband scattering becomes very strong. In the strong interband scattering limit, a two-gap structure corresponding to two order parameters recovers in the superconducting density of states. We also show that a bound state appears around a nonmagnetic impurity depending on the phase of interband scattering potential.

Impurity effect as a probe for order parameter symmetry in iron-based superconductors

The pointlike impurity scattering is studied for a superconductor with different pairing symmetries based on a minimal two band model proposed by S. Raghu et al. [Phys. Rev. B 77, R220503 (2008)], and the self-consistent Bogoliubov-de Gennes equations. Two intragap resonance peaks are found at or near the nonmagnetic impurity site for a typical sx2y2 symmetry and strong scattering potentials. S...

Progress in nonmagnetic impurity doping studies on Fe-based superconductors

We review the progress of nonmagnetic impurity doping studies on Fe-based superconductors. On the theoretical side, two highly promising candidates for the pairing symmetry order parameter, i.e. the multi-gap s++ and s± wave models, have been proposed but continuously debated. The debate arises because of the complex gap structure and exceptional magnetic and metallic behaviors of Fe-based supe...

In-gap bound states induced by nonmagnetic impurities in two-band s± superconductors

The physics of single nonmagnetic impurity immersed in a two-band s-wave superconductor with relative phase 0 between its two order parameters is studied and elucidated. It is shown that midgap bound states are always induced by nonmagnetic impurities when = s -wave superconductors . These bound states emerge as a consequence of the topological nature of the corresponding Bogoliubov-de Gennes e...

Nonmagnetic impurity resonances as a signature of sign-reversal pairing in FeAs-based superconductors.

The energy band structure of FeAs-based superconductors is fitted by a tight-binding model with two Fe ions per unit cell and two degenerate orbitals per Fe ion. Based on this, superconductivity with extended s-wave pairing symmetry of the form cosk(x)+cosk(y) is examined. The local density of states near an impurity is also investigated by using the T-matrix approach. For the nonmagnetic scatt...

Scattering by impurity-induced order parameter “holes” in d-wave superconductors

Nonmagnetic impurities in d-wave superconductors cause strong local suppressions of the order parameter. We investigate the observable effects of the scatterigng off such suppressions in bulk samples by treating the order parameter “hole” as a pointlike off-diagonal scatterer treated within a selfconsistent t-matrix approximation. Strong scattering potentials lead to a finite-energy spectral fe...
